The Calgary Stampede is officially back in 2023.
The huge 10-day, running from July 7th to July 16th, 2023, has turned the city into a vibrant hub with country music echoing through the streets.
From checking out all the delicious street food to iconic parades, here are some things you must do at the Calgary Stampede.

1. Experience the Impressive Calgary Stampede Powwow

The massive Calgary Stampede Powwow is returning to the Saddledome for the second consecutive year, and it is truly spectacular.

You’ll get to witness some of the finest dancers and drummers from all across Canada and the United States, showcasing First Nations’ dances, songs, and drumming. On Monday, the top 20 performers in each category will compete to make it into the top 10 and have a chance to win cash prizes.
The Powwow will take place on July 12th and 13th from noon to 6 PM.

2. Enjoy Live Music

The Calgary Stampede is not just about country music. Mr. Worldwide himself, Pitbull, had a major concert at the Saddledome on Friday, July 7th, while artists like Tegan and Sara will also perform at the Coca-Cola Stage on Tuesday, July 11th.

Other performers throughout the city include Canadian legend Nelly Furtado, rapper Jack Harlow, Skrillex, and more.

3. Hit the Streets and Indulge in Food

It wouldn’t be the Calgary Stampede without a range of quirky and fantastic food options, and 2023 is no exception.

Some of the wildest food choices you can try this year include Kool-Aid pickled chicken sandwich, $100 hot dogs with tomato sauce and whipped cream.

4. Experience the Magic of the Evening Show

One of the most iconic parts of the Stampede is the Evening Show, which starts at 7:45 PM every night.

Among the performers in the show are Juno Award-winning artist Johnny Reid, The Young Canadians of the Calgary Stampede, and Broadway star Forrest McClendon.

This year also marks the 100th anniversary of the Chuckwagon Races at the Stampede, with the world’s first chuckwagon race being held at the Calgary Stampede in 1923. You can catch the races each evening at 7:45 PM, just before the Evening Show. It’s also a great opportunity to see the Calgary Stampede fireworks display every night.

5. Celebrate Calgary’s Wrestling History

The “AEW: Collision” event for wrestling fans will take place at the Saddledome on Saturday, July 15th, bringing a special professional wrestling night to the city.

The event also pays tribute to the late Canadian professional wrestler Owen Hart.
You can purchase tickets to attend the event online or watch it through live television broadcast. Doors open at 4 PM, and “AEW: Collision” begins at 5 PM.

6. Don’t Miss the Cutest Event

While there are many fantastic live events happening throughout the Stampede, one of the most popular—and adorable—activities is the Dog Bowl.
You can watch the most adorable dogs showcase their skills in fast-paced games, dock diving, disc throwing, and freestyle dancing. There are multiple performances each day, so it’s the perfect place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the festival.

7. Explore the Elbow River Camp Attractions

There’s plenty to see and do at the Elbow River Camp, and it’s well worth a visit while you’re at the Stampede grounds. You can experience the cultures of the Kainai, Piikani, Siksika, Stoney Nakoda, and Tsuut’ina First Nations.
You can visit 26 different tipis and browse through various local artisans selling jewelry, artworks, food like bannock and saskatoonberry jam, and more.

8. Enjoy Free Stampede Breakfast

There’s almost always a free Stampede breakfast happening around the city to help you start your day with a full stomach.
Shopping centers, restaurants, and businesses throughout the city will serve pancake breakfasts during the Calgary Stampede so you can fuel up for a busy day.
