Not only is it a precious gem in Western Canada, but Calgary is also acclaimed as the friendliest city not only in this country but worldwide.

The friendliest cities in the world were compiled in the 2023 Conde Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards, with 10 cities making the list.

Calgary was ranked first, with a friendliness score of 97.81.

The travel website further notes that while Calgary International Airport may be as flat as a pancake, its proximity to the Rocky Mountains makes this place a “playground for explorers” where “nature and urban life coexist harmoniously.”

The opportunity to discover the Rockies from virtually anywhere in the city is a significant plus for the readers’ choice list, along with enchanting outdoor destinations such as Lake Louise and Banff National Park just a few hours away.

In addition to this ranking, Conde Nast Traveller also introduces the city’s steakhouse restaurants, independent shops, and its multicultural-friendly community.

The two friendliest cities on the planet are both located in Alberta, the province’s capital, Edmonton, coming in second to Calgary with a friendliness score of 95.71.

Here is the list of the top 5 friendliest cities in the world:

  • Calgary, Alberta
  • Edmonton, Alberta
  • Victoria, BC
  • Dublin, Ireland Québec City, Québec
