University of Toronto Tops Global Rankings for 2025, Leading in 46 Subjects Worldwide

A new global ranking of universities for 2025 has been released, and the University of Toronto (U of T) has once again proven its academic excellence. The QS World University Rankings by Subject, released on March 12, 2025, evaluates over 21,000 academic programs in 55 subjects across more than 1,700 universities worldwide.

The University of Toronto stands out as the top post-secondary institution in Canada and is recognized as “world-leading” in numerous fields. U of T ranked in the top 50 for 46 different subjects, making it the only university in Canada or the world to achieve such a high ranking across so many disciplines. This includes subjects in arts and humanities, engineering, life sciences, natural sciences, and social sciences.

In specific subject areas, U of T earned impressive rankings, including:

  • Arts and Humanities: 14th
  • Engineering and Technology: 17th
  • Life Sciences and Medicine: 13th
  • Natural Sciences: 20th
  • Social Sciences and Management: 14th

The university also secured a place in the top 50 for subjects such as linguistics, philosophy, computer science, data science, engineering, psychology, medicine, and various branches of science, including chemistry, biology, and environmental studies. Notably, the University of Toronto’s reputation has contributed significantly to its standing as one of the best universities globally, further reinforcing its status in higher education.
